Recognize ♋ Cancer
Look for two small curved forms facing in opposite directions. The glyph can resemble a sideways pair of curls. Distinguish it from Pisces by noticing that it does not use a straight central crossbar.
In the Western tropical framework used here, Cancer is a water sign with a cardinal modality. A sign is a named division of the astrological zodiac. It is not the same thing as a modern astronomical constellation, and it does not describe a whole person by itself.
Understand the grouping
Cancer combines water’s feeling-oriented vocabulary with cardinal beginning. In an introductory exercise, ask what it means to begin making a setting welcoming or supportive. A symbol is not evidence about a person’s family, emotional needs or private history.
Compare Cancer with Scorpio. Both are classified as water; Cancer is cardinal and Scorpio fixed. Explore the distinction between opening a supportive conversation and sustaining attention once the conversation is underway.
Try a notebook exercise
Imagine welcoming somebody to a club they have never visited. Write one opening question and one practical action that could help them orient themselves. Then consider how you would find out what they actually need instead of assuming that your idea of welcome fits everyone.
Finish by copying the glyph beside the sign name, element and modality. Separate the label you can identify from the meaning you are exploring. If an interpretation does not fit your experience, keep that disagreement in your notes rather than forcing a match.
